Coco Bear

‘Coco Bear’ is a teddy bear construction kit that combines my love of textiles and ‘cute culture’ – something I realised during self-reflection, has provided me with social connection and an ongoing sense of belonging. This physical side of the project began with hand drawn and painted illustrations. These illustrations were then transformed into repeating patterns using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The twelve patterns made were digitally printed onto cotton sateen and depict what I imagine to be a day in the bear’s lives, waking up in the morning, going for a walk in the park, and attending a friends birthday party. My intention behind creating a DIY construction kit was to provide a way for others to explore their own identities creatively, as well as foster connection and community.
